Stonewalled – still demanding respect
Police abuses against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the USA
This report is based on the report Stonewalled: police abuse and misconduct against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the U.S. produced by Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) in 2005. It is based on research conducted between 2003 and 2005 which focused primarily on four very different and geographically diverse US cities – Chicago (Illinois), Los Angeles (California), New York (New York), and San Antonio (Texas). All four cities have well-documented histories of police brutality and misconduct and each has taken at least some steps to address these human rights abuses. They, therefore, provide an insight into the progress that has been made and the challenges that remain.
Are Slovak LGBTs proud enough for PRIDEs ?
( -paf-, english, 02.07.2006)
This paper was originally written for Round Table that took place within Zagreb´s International PRIDE events at the end of June 2006. The main topic of the round table was Right to Freedom of Assembly and violence on Pride or Pride-like manifestations in Region of Central and Easter Europe. While some of the countries don´t have experience with PRIDEs, others have repeatedly faced either verball or sometimes even very violent physical attacks from extremist and radical groups such as religious and nationalist parties, or local hooligans (nationalist sports fans). Some countries are more free than other, still they face low self-esteem of their local Queer people. Some PRIDEs just fail to happen because of low interest (or fear to come out) of local queers to take part in them.
